The Emmelyn, a state-of-the-art hut with energy efficient lighting and compostable toilets, opens for guests on November 23. The 10th Mountain Division Hut Association will accept reservations – either online (recommended) or by phone- beginning 8 a.m., November 1. Located north of Leadville at 11,150 feet, the hut sleeps ten in two private bedrooms and a communal sleeping area. It requires a whole-hut reservation.

Contemporary and sleek with a wood-burning stove, Emmelyn enjoys sweeping vistas, including views of Mt. of the Holy Cross, Mt. Massive and Mr. Elbert. Leadville resident, Cannon Shockley along with friends, family and local contractors, constructed the hut after years of planning, permitting and building.

Suggested winter access is via the East Tennessee trailhead (distance 3.4 miles). The hut also connects to Sangree’s by the 10th Mountain 2.7 mile ski trail.
